Shared Lands’ Kennedy Mkutu to Research Water Scarcity and Violence

The research will focus on Indigenous systems of water governance in three arid/semi-arid counties of Kenya

In September 2021, Shared Lands member, Kennedy Mkutu, will begin new research in Marsabit County on the relationship between water scarcity and violence in collaboration with Prof David Anderson of the University of Warwick. The British Academy funded project aims to document historical approaches to water stewardship in Narok, Marsabit and Isiolo, and assess present conflict dynamics surrounding water use and access in these arid/semi-arid counties.
